Forward by Charlie Ekburg (Grandson of Charlie Ekburg and grandnephew of August Ekburg)
Every human shares a two-part story regarding his or her pedigree; one story told from the father’s side and the other from his or her mother’s.
Each individual’s story is a complex compilation of back-looking bifurcations of human relationships, that is extended into the next generation when that individual reproduces – then they too become a successor link in the intricate but precise human connections we call ancestry.
My Mother, Freda (Roberts) Ekburg, and her siblings traced their ancestry from the present, following hundreds of begets to an individual who emigrated from Austria to North America before it was a country. He served in the Continental Army fighting alongside George Washington to help win the independence of our country. This is a proud family matter!
Ironically, ancestral records of this Ekburg clan consist of only a few disjointed paragraphs, a bunch of images, anecdotal evidence, and lore that comprise incomplete chapters in my dad’s (Ekburg/Petersson) story. The greatest void is the years the Ekburg boys and Petersson girls lived in Sweden (pre-1890), and their parents’ stories – we may never complete that chapter.
The other missing paragraphs and chapters are the events, results, and succession of the Petersson girls and their offspring’s lives and Charlie’s and Gus’s brother John, who went to find life in California, and their sister Mary who went to Washington state. And, what about Beda’s eleven siblings, only four of which we have history?
Our Goal
This Ekburg clan has created this site with hopes of filling in the missing paragraphs and chapters in the Ekburg ancestry by advantaging the far-reaching capabilities of the internet; we are on a quest of discovery!
We encourage family members, friends of the family, and (especially) those who suspect they may have a limb position in this tree, to leave comments that will add to our story. Besides family, family friends, local residents, and historians may enjoy sharing images and local lore.
This site will continue to grow over time with new information from images not yet scanned and information locked in old personal letters written in Swedish. Return often!
